                        Statement


                        The Bank of England welcomes the extension of EU equivalence for the UK’s

                   legal and supervisory framework for central counterparties (CCPs). The European

                   Commission’s announcement today supports financial stability and the sound

                   functioning of financial markets in both the UK and the EU. We will continue to

                   co-operate closely with the European Securities and Markets Authority on the process

                   of extending the existing recognition of UK CCPs.
